Post Project continuation

Hi,

I wanted to find out about how the system will continue after your thesis and whether this will just end as a research project.

So far this has been the most promising forum software I have seen for Joomla, and before seeing it I was about to embark on writing my own forum.

So if this is going to stay on after your research project is complete and going to stay going as a project, I will consider taking it on as my forum.

As it is I am going to run the private forums of my website with it and then consider moving to it full time going forward.

Also are you planning on writing any converters, say Fireboard or Phpbb to Joo!BB?

cheers
Dan

Hi Danny,

my thesis is done since November 2007. The development on this project is still going on. Also in the future Smile.

Sorry, there are no plans for converters Sad Smile. I hope someone of the Joomla Community will take time to do this?! I you want, you are very welcome. You may discuss all about converters in
Programming - Architecture & Code.

Please be in mind, that there will be some changes on the database in the first beta release!!!

Regards
Robbie

I was/am using Joomla 1.0.12 and SMF but recently my site got hacked, I couldn't update Joomla because of bridge and GPL issue with SMF, I started looking for alternative to SMF but this time I wanted something Joomla base so Fireboard was the only option until I came across Joo!BB, I installed it on localhost I must say for a single developer very impressive well done.

Now that I know you will continue development and won't abandon the project I will start testing the forum more thoroughly.

Hopefully someone will help you with converters (SMF, Fireboard, phpbb and etc.) otherwise users with boards will not switch easily.

Please add a registration module to replace Joomla login/registration module

why this is needed, since JooBB is native component ?
You can simply use any other login module for J1.5, like Signal Login, Rock, gavick, and so many other standard login modules, for vertical or horizontal positions ?

Post Re: Project continuation

This project has potentials but it seems the interest to develop it further has gone, for instance notify on reply doesn't work, I just stopped by to see if any new release was made when I saw the reply to my post (yes I have notify on reply on)

By registration/login module I mean one native to Joo!bb so it would show Joo!bb fields.

Hope the project continues...

hi,

there are still changes on Joo!BB. I know that it is very important to release new versions often, but there are some problems at the moment. maybe I will dare this step and make a new release soon.

regards
robbie

PS: Joo!BB is thought as a working software and not as a never ending BETA! Smile

When will we see the next release? I am running joobb as part of my companies intranet and it has been going good, but there are some issues still. When the next release comes out, you mentioned database changes, you are going to include a migration script in the installation correct? or will this completelySuprised wipe out my data?!?Suprised

Post Re: Project continuation

Hi ObiHann,

thank you for testing Joo!BB. I will create a release package when I'am sure, that Joo!BB is ready as a Beta.

I'am very sorry, but there will be no updates on my side! And I apologize for any inconvenience! It needs too much time to do that beyond an alpha release. Therefore I decided to make NO updates until release 1.0 and concentrate my power to the development.

BUT! Maybe Jeff will be so nice to help me out. Please see SVN Missing install.sql and Status.

Kind regards,
Robbie
