Post Re: Joo!BB Beta 0.9.0 Install Pack Available

Hi Robbie,

Great news the package is available. Thank you so much for making this new release possible.

One question before I go ahead and install it on my production site: Can this version be updated when we move to newer versions? It's important for me to know if the postings can be kept and not lost on later releases.

Greetings,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

thank you very much! Blush

A very big YES! You can expect full update support from now on. For both, Joo!CM as Joo!BB too. That means no data lost anymore. You know, as a programmer I cannot say it's a good idea to run beta software in production. But I would "carefully" say, it is possible with 0.9.0. Wink

It would also be a very good idea to create your own Joo!BB/Joo!CM template and style! And not modifying the original one. In 99% of cases your own template will run without any problems with a new version.

Kind regards,
Robbie

Awesome Job Robbie!

So far so good. A few questions and bugs to report. Can I have the BB installed without the CM? IF both are not installed, the BB doesn't work.

So far, the bugs I found on the BB are:
1. Ranks images are linked wrong. The new images are pngs and they are entered as gifs.
2. Upload attachment does not work.

Other than that I am loving this board and would love to help if I can. Donation? Post a link for donations. I am sure people would help out considering you are giving us an awesome product for free!

Thanks

Dan

Hi Robbie,

Excellent job! Just installed both components on my web-portal and already start using it for my community. It was worth to be patient and waiting for your board. It's brilliant! Just figured the rank graphics need to be switched to *.png to appear - default is still *.gif.
Also noticed an error when I am calling up the "User list" from my profile:
500 - Layout "joocm_pagination" not found...

Other than than, I really love Joo!BB and the new community component!

Keep up the great work.
Thomas

I have to say...

bravo! Big Smile

So far no errors or problems, except for my sloppiness I just had to re do my skin CSS as I didn't back it up.

The board runs fine, I am learning the CM and other new features. I am very happy with this creation. Soon I will do a closed beta with around 20 testers and ill get you the results that they bring up to my attention.

Great job, and thank you very much ^^

Hi all,

thank you very much for your feedback and Bug reports.

Of course I made corrections. Wink

This feature will be available in one of the next releases.

Maybe in the future... Joo!CM and Joo!BB are for free. I'm really not interested in making any profit with it. As you can see on this site, I found an other way. Maybe it's not an elegant way, but it is enough to cover my costs. Whatever, thank you for your commitment, Dan. Smile

Kind regards,
Robbie

Question Re: Joo!BB Beta 0.9.0 Install Pack Available

Hi Robbie,

One question for the future use ...
How will the update procedure work to the next version, let's say 0.9.1 ?

Does the site admin just de-install the old module and re-install the new one, without loosing the database conenction/content?
Or am I required to overwrite the component and directory structure on the host server via ftp access?

A very user/admin friendly way is offered by the guys who do the "phoca galerie" component. There you can simply install the new updated component and two buttons appear asking: "New install or Update"... Pending on which one to click, you got a fresh clean and new system installed or an updated version.
It also contains a button for version checking.....
Do you plan to implement something like this?

Meanwhile, 0.9.0 runs very well and my community start using it. Smile

Greetings,
Thomas from Stuttgart

Post Re: Joo!BB Beta 0.9.0 Install Pack Available

Hi Thomas,

no, no deinstall is needed. When you do deinstall, all data will be lost. I will provide two packages. One for new installation (newcomer) and one for an update. I just will use the original Joomla way for updates.

Yes, that seems to be a friendly update. At the moment I don't know, how I will manage updates in future. For sure it is very usefull to write an own installer script, but I'd like to use my time for making my components ready for public(production).

Yes, in fact there are plans for the updating system, e.g. to be able to update from 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3... to 1.0.9. But this is future. A version check similar to phpBB is planed since one year. Blush There would be so many things easier, when the day would have 48 hours. Wink

Nice to hear you like it. Smile

Kind regards,
Robbie from (near) Stuttgart (The world is an orange)

Hello neighbour! Wink

Yes, the world seem to be a village. Smile Smile
Didn't know you are from this area... cool! Smile

Today one of my community members brought a question to my attention I wasn't sure how to answer... Hope you can help.

Joo!BB now bases on Joo!CM. Both Modules do include tools for "User synchronization". I found out, synchronizing with the Joo!BB tool, does do something (The process to complete takes several seceonds) but it doesn't change the total numbers of user, displayed om the board.
Doing the same with Joo!CM, the process to complete the synchonization takes about the same time, but now all registered users are really counted on the board.

Question:
1. Are new users, registered via Joomla automatcally registered on Joo!CM or is a manual user synchronization necessary?
2. Which tool (User synchronization) of both Modules (Joo!BB or Joo!CM) has effect to the forum and enable new users to post? (My guess is Joo!CM is the one).

Greetings,
Thomas

Post Upgrade - Painfull

Hi guys,

so I did upgrade from 0.74 to 0.90....

1- dump your database
2- uninstall JooBB 0.7x
3- install JooBB 0.9
4- edit your dump and separate these Tables: Joobb_forums, Joobb_posts, Joobb_topics
5- import in PhPmyAdmin the forums
6- edit the posts file and remove 1 field (`notify_on_reply`) in all recordings,
7 - import the file
8- edit the topic file and remove 1 field (`id_moved`) in all recordings,
9 - import the file

Voila !

Post Re: Joo!BB Beta 0.9.0 Install Pack Available

Hi Thomas,

sorry for the late answer. Joo!CM synchronize the joomla user table with joocm_users and Joo!BB with joobb_users. hmmm... I forgot to make the users able to set up their Joo!BB settings. Angry That's right. To get the correct total number of users you only need to synchronize joomla users with Joo!CM.

[qoute]1. Are new users, registered via Joomla automatcally registered on Joo!CM or is a manual user synchronization necessary?[/qoute]

Yes and No. As long as the user do not any action in joocm or joobb he's not synchronized. The first click on Joo!CM or Joo!BB synchronize the user automatically with the settings set up in your configuration "User default settings".

[qoute]2. Which tool (User synchronization) of both Modules (Joo!BB or Joo!CM) has effect to the forum and enable new users to post? (My guess is Joo!CM is the one).[/qoute]

The answer of 1. answers this question too.

Kind regards and many thx for the information. I can now solve some forgotten functions. Wink

Posted under "tips and tricks", my notes as to how I did this. We have to get this stuff out of an "announcement" thread.

Guys,

You are hi-jacking this thread! The last two questions belong in the support areas. Please post them there and someone will answer you as we can't keep taking a thread about the new release and post every support issue down the line of that thread.

Kindly,
Jeff
