How to use translation?

I have downloaded and (as far as I know) installed the french translation package, but I cannot find the option to enable the French. Where is the option to change between languages?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I've never installed or used another language, but we have documentation on it found here so I'm guessing that as long as all of the files are in the package, you can follow this to insure that it works.

I don't believe that it's a setting.

I'm not really as interested in creating my own translation package as in using one of the ones that are already available for download. Either way, the document you have linked to really contains no helpful information above what can be easily deduced by any but the newest of joomla users....

I have already placed the translation files into the required directories - what I cannot figure out is how to activate a translation! There must be a setting somewhere to tell the system to use a fr-FR not an en-GB language file, but I cannot find where! How is this determined?

I'm sure there are people who are successfully using Joo!BB translations....?
