Re: Problem with the system default editor
Post Re: Problem with the system default editor

Hi Jeff, all,

I did use the upgrade option to install 0.9.1 on my site.
Looking around for a solution, I found the following:

The global system settings on Joomla did still refer to my preferred editor, but when I did lookup the user settings now, I found Joo!BB editor was the selected one for my account.

Not sure if this switch happened during the upgrade to 0.9.1. automatically, but under "MySettings" (Profile) I found Joo!BB editor as well (I guess these fields and settings are part of Joo!CM).

After switching "MySettings" back to JCE, but calling up and selecting the Joo!BB Forum specific settings and switching to Joo!BB editor as default, it works. I do have JCE back as editor for my articles and when I go into the forum to post, the Joo!BB editor comes up.

I think the many options to switch an editor on/off on different locations/setting pages starts to get a little bit confusing....

Greetings,
Thomas

Problem with the system default editor
Post Problem with the system default editor
by thorab on 04/17/2009 00:15

Hi Robbie,

Since I updated to Joo!BB editor 0.9.1, my global Joomla system setting for the editor (I'm using JCE) to generate articles in my Joomla environment, seem to be swiched off. Creating new articles on the backend results now in a very basic text field with no formatting options - JCE is obviously not loading.

If I temporarily deactivate the Joo!BB editor, JCE is back and works as usual. This leads me to the conclusion, something is not going well together. I like the Joo!BB editor for the forum but I really can't miss JCE for my articles and blog.
Hope there is a fix available.

Greetings,
Thomas

Hi Robbie,

Hope my mail with the editor changes has arrived save.
I saw Stephan has posted the changes to the community in this discussion already...

To all: Just want to say everybody should be aware these modifications are not yet in Robbies source. So if someone decides to implement the changes according to Stephan's instruction, please be aware next update (0.9.1) may overwrite the functions - as long as Robbie has not decided if he wants to implement these changes to the Joo!BB source.

So far, its a modification we made on our website knowing we may need to do it again after the next update...
Just for clarification and no bother....

Thomas

Joo!BB Editor enhancement
Post Joo!BB Editor enhancement
by thorab on 03/13/2009 23:06

Hi Robbie,

Joo!BB 0.9.0 was received very well from our community. The Users are starting to post and fill the board with life. Smile
Only one comment was received for improvements.... The editor seem to be a bit too basic, not allowing a lot of formatting, missing some general buttons to format text, fonts, colours or to include pictures.

Stephan Pilz, our team editor, has reviewed the Joo!BB source code and added some basic features to the editor we missed badly. Maybe you like the enhancement and want to add it for your coming release?
See changes in the picture, below:

If you are interested, just drop me a quick mail and I can forward the modified source.

Greetings,
Thomas

Hello neighbour! Wink

Yes, the world seem to be a village. Smile Smile
Didn't know you are from this area... cool! Smile

Today one of my community members brought a question to my attention I wasn't sure how to answer... Hope you can help.

Joo!BB now bases on Joo!CM. Both Modules do include tools for "User synchronization". I found out, synchronizing with the Joo!BB tool, does do something (The process to complete takes several seceonds) but it doesn't change the total numbers of user, displayed om the board.
Doing the same with Joo!CM, the process to complete the synchonization takes about the same time, but now all registered users are really counted on the board.

Question:
1. Are new users, registered via Joomla automatcally registered on Joo!CM or is a manual user synchronization necessary?
2. Which tool (User synchronization) of both Modules (Joo!BB or Joo!CM) has effect to the forum and enable new users to post? (My guess is Joo!CM is the one).

Greetings,
Thomas

Question Re: Joo!BB Beta 0.9.0 Install Pack Available
by thorab on 02/27/2009 13:34

Hi Robbie,

One question for the future use ...
How will the update procedure work to the next version, let's say 0.9.1 ?

Does the site admin just de-install the old module and re-install the new one, without loosing the database conenction/content?
Or am I required to overwrite the component and directory structure on the host server via ftp access?

A very user/admin friendly way is offered by the guys who do the "phoca galerie" component. There you can simply install the new updated component and two buttons appear asking: "New install or Update"... Pending on which one to click, you got a fresh clean and new system installed or an updated version.
It also contains a button for version checking.....
Do you plan to implement something like this?

Meanwhile, 0.9.0 runs very well and my community start using it. Smile

Greetings,
Thomas from Stuttgart

Hi Robbie,

Excellent job! Just installed both components on my web-portal and already start using it for my community. It was worth to be patient and waiting for your board. It's brilliant! Just figured the rank graphics need to be switched to *.png to appear - default is still *.gif.
Also noticed an error when I am calling up the "User list" from my profile:
500 - Layout "joocm_pagination" not found...

Other than than, I really love Joo!BB and the new community component!

Keep up the great work.

Hi Robbie,

Great news the package is available. Thank you so much for making this new release possible.

One question before I go ahead and install it on my production site: Can this version be updated when we move to newer versions? It's important for me to know if the postings can be kept and not lost on later releases.

Hi Robbie,

Yes, that's a good way to roll it out. I don't need a super feature packed component and would be very happy to have a stable Joo!BB soon. Smile
I already love it the way it is.

One question to JCM... How will it appear on my template? Is it kind of a "frontpage", like I see t when I logon to the forum now. Or is it hidden in the background and I can make it to be invisible?

Still mainly looking to utilize Joo!BB on my site and can't wait for the coming stable release.

I'm very sorry to disappoint you. Yes, there is a need to install Joo!CM to be able to run Joo!BB. There are some reasons for my decision. I was criticized because of too many functions in Joo!BB. For example: separated login, profile manager, time zones etc. Many people thinks, Joo!BB will become a standalone forum.

Hi Robbie,

Thank you for your reply. No, I am not disappointed but was just a bit confused about this change. I really thought to be ready to use your board on my site soon and my users are waiting badly for it. Joo!BB ist still my preferred solution. I took the last couple of days to re-structure my website to be ready for your project when available. While I did have some major issues with CB recently, to run updates due to the multiple conenctions and plug-ins this component has, I made up my mind to de-install it and to wait for your solution. Since Joo!Bb ist the best board available and I waited so long to run it, I am anxious to utilize your new community component and Joo!BB as soon as you have released it. Smile

Post Re: Joomla! Community Manager (Joo!CM)

Hi team,

I still feel a bit lost and hope somebody can help to move me on the back of the horse.
I was searching and waiting so long for a native board and Joo!BB really was offering all I wanted.
But I was looking for a board that works lean and fine, not another community builder module.
So does Joo!BB still work as a stand alone board I can integrate to my CMS and will it at least offer some CB integration, like Avatar usage, or is it only working with the newly announced community bridge?
Just want to make sure I understood the coming change and see were you guys want to be tomorrow, so I can make a desicion, if this is what I need and wait for. Not sure if I understood the new concept as a whole.

Greetings,
Thomas

Post Re: Joomla! Community Manager (Joo!CM)

Hi Robbie,

Thank you for your announcement.
I never thought Joo!BB is „dead“ and trustfully waited for the stable release of your board. I can’t tell often enough how much I appreciate your work. Over the year of development you have mentioned, I truly became a fan of Joo!BB, certainly hoping and planning to integrate Joo!BB on my website as soon as possible. So I read your announcement with big interest and sense you are planning to extent your component adding new features for community building.

When I saw your announcement, I thought „Wow“ – this new approach is very interesting. However, I also had some bittersweet feelings and hope Joo!BB is not following the same path some other Joomla projects I know have gone. All is beginning with a great idea and encouraging work, just like you do on Joo!BB. Over time, these project are growing more and more and instead of a stable release and an extendable concept, which is ready to be used in its current state but open for future add-ons, the feature lists are getting longer and longer and the final release schedule is pushing out more and more. These projects never get completed, the development is slowing down and in some cases, like the fireboard implementation for J 1.5, people really have the feeling it’s dead.

I am far away to criticize and I am committed to Joo!BB, but after thinking about the new project roadmap, I was wondering why you want to spend time, energy and efforts to invent the wheel again instead of making Joo!BB complete and stable but compatible to CB, which is already widely used, tested and accepted by the community. Since many components are already linking to CB, for instance uddeIM and others, I was hoping Joo!BB also will support this compatibility on future releases – at least fort the Avatar function, login and/or profiling. Always looking around, I just tested the newly released ccBoard, which is far behind Joo!BB on the development state, but already including basic CB functions. So why not getting in touch with the CB guys and taking advantage for Joo!BB of what they already have completed?

Now you are planning to do a much bigger step and developing a complete new community platform. I sense your excitement and I understand this challenge is very motivating from the development point of view. I just hope the new component and concept will be successful and cross my fingers for you.

Since you had announced two weeks ago, a stable and updateable Joo!BB release will be actually ready somewhen now, let me ask if this is still the plan of record.

Friendly greetings,
Thomas

Hi Robbie,

I am using UDDEIM on my Joomla installation already, which works well as a stand alone PMS and in combination with CB. Not sure if it is really necessary to implement a PMS into JooBB. If I would have the choice to implement it and/or to work on a stable and first level production release of the current state, I would choose last. Wink

Happy New Year
Post Happy New Year
by thorab on 12/31/2008 13:46

Hi Robbie and team,

The year is almost over and I do not want to miss wishing you all a Happy new Year and all the best for 2009! May all your plans, dreams and wishes come true!

For JooBB, I wish you lots of creativity, motivation, energy and time to move forward with this brilliant component. Really hope a first level production release will be reached soon and I can't wait to use your board for my community.

If I have any wish at all, then I like to say: "Keep it light, fast and simple as is". Don't add too many more features. Your board is already a great gift for the community, which is badly waiting to have a solution between the (fat) Agora and FB, and on the very lower end, the "Simplest forum".

You do a great job and we (the community) can't tell you often enough how much we appreciate your work! Clapping

Happy New Year!
Thomas

Hi Robbie,

Excellent work on version 0.7.7.
JooBB is getting better each time and I can barely wait to install it and open it to the community once we at 0.9.0.
From the functionality, the current version already has everything I was looking for.
Great job and thank you so much for making this available for us.

Excellent! Smile

I am ready to try 0.7.7 and barely can wait. Smile

Do you think with this new version, I can start (slowly) to build up my community? Or is it still recommemded to wait another while or for the next version? All depends, if the database can be re-used for the next version and remains stable. What do you think?

Re: HOW TO INSTALL JOO!BB?
Post Re: HOW TO INSTALL JOO!BB?
by thorab on 11/16/2008 00:40

Hi Khyron,

I know first steps are not easy sometimes and my previous poster may have more experience - that's why he kept his reply maybe pretty short. But to help you anyway, I can at least point to the Joo!BB Download information:

Please download Joo!BB Component and Joo!BB Editor and install the Editor first. Then publish the Joo!BB Editor in Plugin Manager. After that you may install the Joo!BB Component. Please note, that you always need the latest version of Joo!BB Component and Editor!

The installation of the editor plug-in and component can be very easily done via your Joomla admin login (backend), by using the top menu: Exensions -> Install/De-install.
Just make sure to follow the recommended sequence and steps, like described above. Check if your server is running MySQL 5.xx. I have had issues installing and running Joo!BB until I switched to the latest MySQL version.

Although I am impatient to start my own Joo!BB forum right away (my fandom is already demanding it) you and I need to keep in mind the forum is still in Beta state. So further changes on the database are likely while pursuing to the first stable release. Smile

Greetings,
Thomas

Hi Robby,

Yes, you are right. Sorry if I have mixed up both things for a moment. It's regarding the main menue only.

Most important to integrate your Module into the template ist the "Module-Class-Suffix", so your module can adapt the Site look by adapting the template suffix parameters.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
This is a great and fast response.

Tested 0.7.6
Post Tested 0.7.6
by thorab on 11/07/2008 20:14

Hi Robbie,

I have tested 0.7.6 on a bigger scale this time and it worked very well. The only thing holding me back to let it go live is of course the developement state.

I read in another discussion, your estimate is another 2-3 month to stable release, so I better wait until I let my forum members start posting with a risk to lose the postings during another version upgrade...
...except, you can tell there will be no more database updates or changes.

Other than that, I got only one thing I want to ask for: I was happy about the "Latest post module", it worked very well. But please, can you add options for "Menü-Class-Suffix" and "Modul-Class-Suffix", to be able to adapt the module better to an existing style-sheet or template?

Greetings from Germany,
Thomas

Hi Mikey,

I had the same issue on my German board but it can be easily fixed by just creating a copy of the language related button set. Just copy the directory for the buttons from en-GB to your local language setting. In my case, it was en-GB to de-DE for Germany. After I just renamed and copied the button set into the component directory, everything worked fine, as you can see here:
http://www.scifi-world.de/index.php?option=com_joobb&view=board&Itemid=317

The buttons can be found at:
/components/com_jobb/designs/buttons/...
