I've been using telecommunications since the Commodore BBS days back in the early 80's. December marked the month of my first trojan/virus EVER. Pretty good track record, but it's a record that I wish were still intact. I had to wipe my laptop which was the only net-enabled machine in the house.
Then, Christmas rolled around and I had to clean and update four different computers. I've still got a lot of software installs left to do, but I'm finally at a point where I can start getting back out onto the internet and doing the occasional fun thing, like participating with you guys and helping to support JooBB.
Hennepdesk: I checked out your forum, it looks pretty good. And the subject matter is pretty awesome, too.
Good luck with your site!
I've just discovered Firebug, the Firefox plugin for examining web page elements. I've found that it makes debugging my pages and modifying my templates super easy.
The ability to turn style items on and off (or modify them) is pretty cool.
Anyone know of any cool tricks I can do with it? It has a lot of buttons that I've not toyed with, yet.
If you don't have it, you can get it here. If you click the 'Inspect' button, you can scroll over elements in the page. Click what you want to examine, and then read the information in the panes. In the right, it tells you exactly where the element is inheriting its css from, and you can turn them on and off from there.
I've thrown my two cents up there, and gave glowing reviews for not just JooBB, but also for Robbie, and the helpful users of the forum like... Chris B.
I've had horrible experiences on eBay and tend not to use it any more.
There was once a rare book in a collection of books that I wanted, but the auction ended while I had to drive home from work. I put a pretty big bid on it ($120), because that was what I was willing to pay for it, even though the auction was presently hanging around $30 bucks before I left work.
During the hour drive, the auction ended, and the one bidding competitor I had during the whole auction pushed the total all the way up past my max bid, then retracted her bid.
I wouldn't have overbid up to 120 bucks if I couldn't pay for it, but that wasn't the issue. It was the 'let's drag his bid to the maximum, then retract out of spite' that irritated me. So I reported it all to eBay and after two weeks of debate: absolutely nothing happened.
I got my rare book, though, and I love it.
Happy belated birthday, JooBB! May you outlive these foolish humans who have enslaved you to do their bulletin board bidding!
Quote by Unknown:Further I think, we can make one of the best forum software this way!
You say this like JooBB isn't the best forum solution for Joomla! I contend that it is. Keep up the great work, Robbie.
1) For SEO, the bots like links with text over links of images. A toggle, perhaps?
2) Sounds good to me!
I didn't see any special instructions on installation.
Before I begin (and potentially mess up something I can't fix immediately), is there anything I need to do to prior to upgrading from .7.4 to .7.5? Uninstall first, or just install on top?
And as promised, here is the .7.5 dance:

Welcome, Jackal!
1) That's a good question. I can't find the version number either. Someone else will have to help here.
2) I think that question is being discussed over in this thread. The short answer is that I don't think it is possible in the present version, but it is probably available in the SVN version.
Chris, the template looks fantastic.
Would you mind sharing the easiest way to change the background of the boxes? I've examined my source, and have tried various element selections, to no avail.
Am I going to have to hunt it down in the php file?
Here is a demo (which is all of them pasted into one image, the real one is split up with JooBB naming conventions). I'm not happy with the 'Preview' button yet. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Robbie,
I've created a set of buttons for Joo!BB. If you'd like them, let me know where I can send them.
I saved it in PNG and that seems to have worked, but the issue still stands for not giving any further details. For some reason Joo!BB isn't passing the %s to the max-size strings to inform someone why their upload sucked.
I tried to upload my avatar here at the Joo!BB community, and received this error:
'Your file size is Maximal allowed file size to upload is'
That is the only information given, and the upload doesn't complete. The file size is 72x72 pixels.
Thanks!
A simple search comes up with this post:

You can put me in with the 'I'll help make a template' bunch. I've got plans to make some new buttons, specifically to share with the community.
Hey, pcio...
The FTP-Layer configuration stuff is located in your global configuration. In your dropdown menu, click Site > Global Configuration.
Once that loads, there are three links above the configuration options. The third is 'Server'. The FTP layer config is located there. Click the 'off' radio button and save.
Hope that helps!

Hi, Robbie...
Great job thus far; keep up the great work!
Suggestion #1: Buttons. Instead of going word-wired (with the 'Submit' etc inside the image itself, you should take advantage of Joomla's language packs. Instead of having 10 different png sets for languages, why not have one single button style that you layer words onto, straight from the language packs. It would be easier on any potential translators, who may not have photoshop, or may be ignorant of how to use it. I use a similar effect for my 'Read More' on my own site, where a graphic is displayed under the 'Read More' link. The buttons as they stand don't have enough contrast (I keep mistaking Report for Reply).
#2: If a user has timed out, and they try to post, it says something to the effect 'You have no permission to edit post'. I would suggest, for user friendliness, is to have a tasteful red X png overlaid on top if they are not logged in and cannot post. If they insist on clicking that link, it should say something telling them that they are not logged in, and give the admin the option of redirecting them to a login page.
My humble two cents!
Looking forward to future improvements!
I am anxiously awaiting a stable production release!
This is, by far, the best BBS around.
I'll be happy to make templates for it.
